UNIT TITLE: Gas Test Atmospheres

This course is for those who are required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a specific area or work space to determine if it is safe.

Prerequisites

  • You must be 18 years of age (as evidenced by photo ID – driver’s license, passport, etc.)
  • Ability to understand, read and write English

Students will attain the practical application and understanding required to effectively carry out atmospheric gas testing and will be able to:

Theory

  • Determine atmosphere to be tested
  • Select and calibrate equipment
  • Determine a Testing Regime
  • Identify Hazards
  • Apply Hazard Control Measures

Practical

  • Use equipment to test gas
  • Interpret and report readings
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring
  • Take action if readings pose an unacceptable risk
  • Maintain gas testing equipment
  • Maintain records

Qualification

A Statement of Attainment and wallet sized card will be issued upon the successful completion of the course indicating the nationally recognised unit of competency.
